Description
A compact 8x10 gable garden shed with a panelled entry door on the gable end and a bright side window — the perfect first build for tools, a mower, and potting supplies. The design uses simple, common-lumber framing: 2x4 walls at a comfortable 7-foot height, 2x6 rafters at a low, neighbourly 4/12 pitch, and an asphalt-shingle roof over plywood sheathing on a pressure-treated skid foundation. Cedar lap siding, corner boards, a base skirt, and a louvered gable vent give it a finished look. Every view in the plan set — front, back, both gable ends, and the floor plan — was modeled and rendered in 3D so you can see exactly what you are building before the first cut.
Building Overview
The Perfect First Build
This 8x10 garden shed packs 80 square feet of storage under a low, neighbourly gable roof — ideal for garden tools, a push or small riding mower, wheelbarrows, and potting supplies. A single 3-foot panelled entry door on the gable end and a bright side window keep the interior usable and welcoming. The proportions and detailing follow a standard ShedPlans-style layout, so the framing is beginner-friendly and uses common lumber dimensions throughout.
Framing & Structure
The shed sits on a simple pressure-treated skid foundation over a compacted gravel pad, with a 2x6 floor frame decked in 3/4-inch plywood. Walls are framed from 2x4 studs at 16 inches on center with 4x4 corner posts, standing a comfortable 7 feet to the eave. The window and door openings use 2x6 headers. The roof is built from eighteen 2x6 rafters at a gentle 4/12 pitch on a full-length ridge board, sheathed with plywood and finished with building paper and asphalt shingles over a metal drip edge.
Finish & Ventilation
Cedar lap siding, corner boards, and a base skirt give the shed a finished, residential look, while a louvered gable vent above the door keeps air moving through the roof space. The included plan set shows every exterior face — front, back, and both gable ends — plus a dimensioned floor plan, all generated from a true 3D model so the drawings match what you build.
