Description

A simple 8x12 lean-to shed with a single-slope (mono-pitch) roof that falls from a tall front wall to a lower back wall — the easiest roof there is to build, with no ridge and no valleys. The tall front carries a 5-foot wide panelled door with a glazed transom above for daylight, and the low back sheds rain away, making it ideal tucked against a fence, garage, or house wall. Framing is beginner-friendly 2x4 construction on a pressure-treated skid base. Every view in the plan set — front, back, both side walls, and the floor plan — was modeled and rendered in 3D so you can see exactly what you are building before the first cut.

Building Overview

The Simplest Roof There Is

This 8x12 lean-to shed gives you 96 square feet under a single-slope roof — no ridge, no valleys, and half the cutting of a gable. The roof falls from a tall front wall to a lower back wall, so rain sheds cleanly to the rear, which makes a lean-to ideal placed against a fence, garage, or house wall. The tall front carries a 5-foot wide panelled door with a glazed transom above for daylight.

Framing & Structure

The shed sits on a pressure-treated skid foundation over a compacted gravel pad, with a 2x6 floor frame decked in 3/4-inch plywood. Walls are framed from 2x4 studs at 16 inches on center with 4x4 corner posts; the front wall stands 8 feet 6 inches and the back wall 6 feet 6 inches, giving the roof its slope. Simple 2x6 shed rafters run front to back with seat cuts at each wall — there is no ridge board to set.

Finish & Daylight

Cedar lap siding, corner boards, and a base skirt give the shed a finished look, while the glazed transom over the door brings in light without a separate window. The included plan set shows every exterior face — front, back, and both side walls — plus a dimensioned floor plan, all generated from a true 3D model so the drawings match what you build.
