Description

A compact 8x10 gable storage shed built from the classic ShedPlans free design: a pair of panelled double doors on the gable end (a 5-foot-4-inch opening) swings wide for a mower, wheelbarrow, or bikes, with a louvered vent in the gable peak for ventilation. The steep 12/12 gable roof gives it real character and a tall interior. The framing is straightforward — 1-1/2x3-1/2 (2x4) treated wall studs about 7 feet to the eave, eighteen rafters at a 12/12 pitch on a full-length ridge board, and an asphalt-shingle roof over plywood sheathing. Cedar lap siding, corner boards, and a base skirt finish it off. Every view in the plan set — front, back, both gable ends, and the floor plan — was modeled and rendered in 3D so you can see exactly what you are building before the first cut.

Building Overview

Compact, Wide-Open Access

This 8x10 storage shed packs 80 square feet under a striking 12/12 gable roof, with a pair of panelled double doors on the gable end that open to a 5-foot-4-inch clear span — wide enough for a push mower, a wheelbarrow, bikes, or bulky seasonal gear. A louvered vent in the gable peak keeps air moving. It is based on the popular ShedPlans free design, so the framing is beginner-friendly and uses common lumber dimensions.

Framing & Structure

The walls are framed from 2x4 studs cut to 6 feet 11 inches, standing about 7 feet to the eave, over a floor frame of eight 2x8 joists. The double-door opening is spanned by a 5-foot-4-inch header. The steep roof is built from eighteen rafters (nine pairs) cut to 5 feet 10-1/4 inches at a 12/12 pitch on a full-length ridge board, tied with collar ties, then sheathed with plywood and finished with building paper and asphalt shingles over a metal drip edge.

Finish & Ventilation

Wood lap siding, corner boards, and a base skirt give the shed a clean, finished look, while the louvered gable vent keeps the roof space ventilated. The included plan set shows every exterior face — front, back, and both gable ends — plus a dimensioned floor plan, all generated from a true 3D model so the drawings match what you build.
